One question that commonly comes to us through email or phone calls is whether or not our tonneau covers work with factory bed rail caps or any kind of bed liner such as drop in or spray in bed liners. The answer is yes, both our G4 Elite and LS Series Fold-a-Cover work with bed rail caps and bed liners.
The only stipulation to this is that the majority or covers utilize the stake pocket holes to mount our windseal rails to the bed of the truck. This means that you will need access to the stake pockets if your truck comes equipped with them. If you do not have stake pocket holes we do have a clamp-on mounting system for most G4 Elite covers. You can read more about it in our previous blog post ‘All current model year application G4 Elite Fold-a-Covers no longer require drilling to install’
If you have plastic bed rail caps there are two things you may need to do.
- Most factory bed rail caps have ‘pop-out’ caps that cover the stake pocket holes. These will simply need to be removed.
- Some bed rail caps do not have ‘pop-out’ caps and if you have stake pockets you will need to access to them. This can be done using a dremel or drill to open the stake pocket holes.
If you have a drop in or spray in bed liner there are a few things you may need to do.
- Again, you will need access to the stake pocket holes in most cases so some trimming of the bed liner may be required if it interferes with proper installation.
- The G4 Elite uses many factory holes in the truck bed to mount the hardware required to use the tonneau cover. If the spray in or drop in bed liner is blocking any of these holes, they will need to be cleared out as well.
It is important to make sure your Fold-a-Cover hard folding tonneau cover fits properly to ensure proper function and maximize its ability to keep the elements out of your truck bed.
