One way that you can help prevent tailgate theft if your truck does not come equipped from the factory with a locking tailgate is to utilize the Fold-a-Cover’s ability to secure the tailgate. If your truck does not come standard with a locking tailgate your Fold-a-Cover will come with a heavy duty metal lock tab (Figure 1) already installed on the rear panel of the cover. Simply install the footmans loop or lock plate (Figure 2) that is already included in your hardware kit. With the footmans loop installed and your Fold-a-Cover locked and secure your tailgate cannot be opened without first unlocking and opening your Fold-a-Cover.
Many other types of hard folding tonneau covers claim to completely secure your truck bed and tailgate, but can only do this is you purchase a pop-‘n-lock for your tailgate. Even then most covers themselves do not have a locking mechanism and can be easily manipulated if someone wanted to access your truck bed or steal your tailgate.
